Backyard Hummingbird

I always anxiously await the arrival of the hummingbirds in Spring. I usually put my feeders out around mid to late March in case early arrivals however I usually don't spot any until April. Honestly it's hard to tell exactly when they start coming around considering how quickly they arrive and leave.

I’ll typically spend many hours sitting on my deck with all my gear setup waiting to have one come by and then in what seems like seconds is gone and back to waiting.

Due to the infrequent stops to my location it's critical to know your settings and have everything setup and dialed in as there is not time to fiddle around once one shows up. Adjusting your gear once a hummingbird arrives is also a guaranteed way to get them to abandon your location and then it's back to waiting.

I would've liked to have captured the red color of its iridescence feathers around its throat but this capture shows how the color changes based on the lighting. Although I'm incredibly happy with this image, getting a capture of their red throat is next!
